09.09.2020

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission and the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) signed a Cooperation Agreement in the field of energy regulation. The document establishes a legal framework for developing bilateral contacts and for exchanging information on regulatory policies in the energy sector and on various regulatory issues, in compliance with national legal frameworks and requirements. The agreement provides for EWRC and AERA to share experience on various regulatory issues and to develop their administrative capacity through participation in specific training activities - conferences, seminars and workshops. An important place in the bilateral cooperation is given to ensuring the quality of the institutional and regulatory process functioning.

The Cooperation Agreement with the Energy Regulatory Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a continuation of the active policy pursued by EWRC to expand and intensify the relationship with the national regulatory authorities of other countries. In recent years, the Bulgarian regulator has taken a number of initiatives to sign cooperation agreements in the field of regulatory activities in the energy and water services sectors with the national regulators of the Balkan Peninsula and other regions.

EWRC and AERA cooperation, based on the bilateral agreement, is expected to contribute to their strengthening as regulators, as well as to the harmonized development of the region in the field of energy regulation.
